Sustainability

Discover all that our hotel does for a sustainable future!

We are committed to providing a comfortable and modern environment for our guests while minimizing our ecological footprint. Our goal is to offer an unforgettable experience without burdening the environment. Below, we’ve summarized how our hotel and team contribute to a sustainable future.

The Art Hotel Szeged, located in the heart of Szeged, was designed by Balogh & Széll Architects Studio Ltd. (Balogh László, Juhász Zsolt, and Házy Zsolt). The hotel’s exterior reflects the brick architecture typical of Szeged, and its style resonates with the surrounding historic buildings. Inside, elegance and simplicity prevail. Opened in May 2013, the hotel was the only Hungarian candidate to reach the top ten in the Central and Eastern Europe Real Estate Quality Awards (CEEQA) in the hotel, leisure, and residential building development category.

It is important for our hotel team that, in addition to providing high-level service to our guests, we take steps to protect our environment and ensure sustainable operation.
Energy consumption
72% of our annual hot water consumption is provided by renewable energy provided by our solar panel.
Szeged is one of the settlements with the best geothermal potential in the country. Our hotel's system utilizes geothermal heat energy, thus significantly reducing gas consumption.
Green roof:
The 5th floor of the Art Hotel Szeged has a green roof, thus increasing the areas covered with vegetation in downtown Szeged, which provides natural cooling for our hotel and a habitat for small insects.
The green roof greatly contributes to the retention of extreme precipitation and to the reduction of the amount of water that escapes from the ecosystem through the sewer system, which is a problem for urban stormwater drainage.
We have placed electric car chargers in our underground garage, so our guests arriving by electric car can conveniently charge their vehicles. Art Hotel Szeged - Electric car charging (accenthotels.com)
Bicycle storage has been set up in the underground garage of our hotel and across from the Apáthy Street dormitory, so our guests and employees can safely store their bicycles.
Cleaning, washing and our cleaning products:
Our laundry partner operates with modern and energy-saving machines and a solar system.
The cleaning agents we use must be diluted locally, thereby reducing transport and the use of packaging materials. The system provides automatic dilution, which avoids excessive chemical use and always provides an optimal concentration for spotless surfaces and cleanliness.
We do not use tablecloths in our restaurant, so we achieve significant savings in textile transport, chemicals and energy.
Our hotel textiles are of high quality and very durable, their weight is not significant, so less energy and chemicals need to be used when washing them.
We are open and constantly test Zero cleaning products, which mean less burden on our environment, our guests and our colleagues.
Waste management
Selective waste management: in the lobby of our hotel, our guests will find waste containers suitable for collecting plastic and separating batteries. Our non-returnable glass, plastic and paper waste generated during our operation is transported selectively. Electronic waste is collected and disposed of separately, just like batteries.
The kitchen team of the Art Hotel Szeged works with great care to reduce food waste, and we entrust the removal and disposal of the resulting animal by-products and cooking oil to a professional company. The environmental protection company serving the bioenergy sector works every day to ensure that organic waste can be 100% recycled and recycled through professional collection and processing. The operating principle of the bioenergy sector is to produce alternative energies that replace classical finite fossil and dangerous nuclear energies, ensuring continuous sustainable development. High priority is given to the production of energy from secondary raw materials, waste and animal by-products. The collection and processing of used cooking oil and the import of purified vegetable oils ensure the supply of raw materials for biodiesel plants in Hungary and neighboring countries.
Our room amenities (shower bath, hand soap, shampoo) are high-quality ADA products, which, due to their larger packaging, have less impact on the environment.
Raw materials, quality and safety: Premium raw materials are purchased from qualified suppliers, followed by professional processing with technology perfected over 39 years, using the most modern machines. Already in the product development phase, extensive application and compatibility tests are carried out, taking into account the latest research results, quality standards and country-specific regulations.

Our hand towel dispensers are made from recycled plastic bottles.

We strive to use minimal paper in our rooms, so our guests can access our guest information by QR code or on our website.

In our hotel and restaurant, we bottle high-quality filtered water (Accent Aqua), which we provide free of charge to our guests in their rooms. We do not use plastic bottles. Guests can purchase a decorative reusable water bottle at our reception, which we refill for free with filtered water throughout their stay.

68% of our supplier partners are Hungarian-founded companies, with 37% being local artisans or regional businesses.

ENZO BENCINI HANDCRAFTED COFFEE
Our handcrafted coffee comes from small family farms that are chemical-free and grow for a longer period, ensuring a richer flavor. Hand-picking allows for more careful harvesting, ensuring only the best quality and ripe beans are selected. During transportation, the coffee is stored in jute bags, which provide the right conditions for the beans, followed by traditional artisanal roasting in double-walled roasters, preventing direct contact with flames and ensuring less than half the allowable European acrylamide content. We roast our coffee fresh every month, as the fresher the beans, the better the coffee.

Vegetarian, Vegan, and Allergen-Free Options On our breakfast buffet and menus, guests will find allergen labels. When designing our menus, we pay special attention to providing tasty and creative vegetarian and vegan options.

We have created a health corner at our breakfast buffet, offering delicious chutneys, allergen-free, and diet-friendly products. Guests can indicate their special dietary needs when making a reservation online.

Honey from Untouched Nature (Bivalyos Farm) At breakfast, guests can enjoy our visually appealing honeycomb boards. Our honey comes from pristine nature, where bees freely gather from the region's abundant treasures. Our supplier owns a large acacia grove in Ásotthalom, neighboring a peaceful nature reserve, surrounded by wild tobacco fields that naturally grow in the area. They place their beehives on a meadow near a small lake on their estate, ensuring equal proximity to the forest, fields, and natural water sources, which provide the bees with necessary hydration. The honey’s rich flavor reflects the region’s diverse flora, with every drop embodying the care of nature.

Local Spirits from Gong Pálinka House Our hotel features products from Gong Pálinka House, including the popular Pink Gin for ladies. Our supplier is located on the border of Deszk and Újszeged, where the entire process—from the arrival of the fruit to bottling—takes place. From the start, they set the goal of relying as much as possible on local producers and ingredients. The distillery owns a 4-hectare apricot orchard and also grows quince, wild cherries, and cornelian cherries. Since the orchards are located around the facility, they can source the fruit in the shortest time possible. They aim for chemical-free farming and the most natural production methods. A significant part of the energy used in production comes from solar panels installed on the facility's roof, contributing approximately 60 kilowatt-hours to sustainable production. As local producers, one of their main advantages is a short supply chain, as their facility is only a few kilometers from our hotel. In addition to these sustainable efforts, they focus on using environmentally-friendly packaging materials. After washing and removing the labels, they reuse the bottles. They also organize pálinka and gin tastings and team-building programs.

Eggs Used in Our Hotel (Kla-Man Farm) We source our eggs from a local supplier whose hens are not fed with genetically modified feed or soy, ensuring the eggs are GMO and soy-free. The eggs are not treated with antibiotics, avoiding health risks to humans. They do not purchase soy from South America, thus helping protect the planet's rainforests, and their egg production and hen rearing are done with minimal ecological impact.

Oils and Fats Used In our kitchen, we do not use harmful palm or coconut oils. The frying oil we use is liquid, heats up quickly, saving time and energy, and has an exceptionally long life when used properly. It can reduce frying oil consumption by up to half.

The baby plant leaves we use for garnishing are supplied by local farmers and processors from Nógrád County. Many small farmers work to make the most of Nógrád County’s natural resources: fertile soil, forests, water, and clean air. They produce high-quality, healthy food locally.

Our local entrepreneur provides fresh mint and basil for garnishing our lemonades and cocktails. The small kitchen garden on our terrace, although modest for now, also contributes fresh herbs for our kitchen and bar.

Our hotel is part of the Accent hotel chain, which, according to Randstad Employer Brand Research, was named Hungary's most attractive employer in the HORECA sector in 2024.

The Randstad Employer Brand Research is the most comprehensive labor market survey in Hungary, summarizing the opinions of more than 7,000 employees. The research examines the perception of employers among employees based on 10 key dimensions, such as an attractive work environment, career development opportunities, competitive benefits, and employee recognition.

At our hotel chain, our colleagues have the opportunity to grow through various trainings and workshops. Many young talents, middle managers, and hotel directors have emerged from our staff.

We believe that we can enhance our guests' satisfaction by offering authentic Szeged and regional experiences, making their travel unforgettable. As part of a regional collaboration, our hotel continuously develops partnerships with local service providers.

Our guests can discover the treasures of our region through guided walks, museum visits, cultural, and other leisure activities. At our reception, we offer discounted guided tours, spa tickets, and program recommendations.
